Psychologists and Psychological Associates are both qualified mental health professionals licensed by the College of Psychologists of Ontario. The key difference lies in their education: Psychologists hold a doctoral degree in psychology with an internship year, while Psychological Associates have a master’s degree followed by four years of supervised experience. Both undergo further supervised training and examinations, and are both covered by insurers as such.
Psychotherapists in Ontario may have various educational backgrounds, such as a master’s degree in psychology, counseling or social work. They are trained to provide psychotherapy, which involves helping clients address emotional, behavioral, and interpersonal issues. Psychotherapists are regulated by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).
